• About Kisensum

Kisensum is the software company dedicated to enabling the integration of energy storage to the grid. From our work at the Los Angeles Air Force Base and other DOD installments we have created a suite of software that enables us to integrate energy storage, both mobile and stationary to support the grid.

Managing the largest vehicle to grid fleet in the world has given us a unique insight into controlling mobile storage and working with many vendors to complete a complex storage integration project.

Our team’s skill sets comprise experience in platform development for navigation, automotive, energy efficiency, and demand response, and were responsible for commercializing Automated Demand Response, now a global standard.

    Clay Collier:    Co-Founder

Clay began his career in the software industry with Teknekron Financial Systems, and was tapped by Telemecanique to work in Sophia Antipolus, France, on Process Control Software. When he returned to the Bay Area, he joined Navteq, and led the team that developed the world’s first fully functional car navigation software. Clay then was the Founder and CEO of Kivera, which delivered the first Location Based System application for smart phones – FindFriend, first deployed by AT&T Wireless. Clay was most recently the Co-Founder and CEO of Akuacom, the inventor of the full suite of software and hardware that created the Automated Demand Response market and led to the OpenADR standard with the support of SCE, PG&E, LBNL, and the CEC. Honeywell acquired Akuacom in 2010.

Clay received a B.A. in Physics from UC Berkeley, and has patented multiple technologies in the areas of geospatial technology, energy systems, and software.

    Bob Barcklay:  Co-Founder

Bob Barcklay is the CTO and co-founder of Kisensum, responsible for the architecture and development of its energy management platform which enables distributed energy resources (electric vehicles, stationary storage and renewable generation) to participate in the ancillary energy markets.   Bob has co-founded several companies and held executive roles leading software engineering teams. Most recently he was co-founder & VP Engineering at Thuuz, a sports analytics company, where he remains on the board.  Previously, he was the VP & Chief Architect at Kivera (acquired by TeleCommunication Systems) where he managed a multinational team developing wireless applications and navigation services.  His first start-up was iKnowMed, where he was a co-founder and VP Engineering for six years.   iKnowMed developed one of the first commercial clinical decision support systems for oncology physicians.

Before starting his career in software development, Bob taught computer science at Stanford University where he received a BS in Mathematics & Computational Science and an MS in Engineering Economic Systems.

    Paul Lipkin:    Co-Founder

Paul Lipkin has served in senior and executive roles in operations and software development in the energy, health, and geospatial markets. He most recently was at Honeywell developing and supporting product operations for the Demand Response solutions. Honeywell had acquired the company for which he served as VP of Operations, Akuacom, which pioneered Automated Demand Response. He previously led operations at Tele-Atlas, Kivera, and TRW, and also founded the healthcare start-up iKnowMed with Bob Barcklay.

Paul received a BS in Computer Science from UC Berkeley.
